We encourage commuters, who use the Wizzherd app, to help create an informative environment for public transport. By choosing one of the reports on the app, a commuter can describe the situation they are experiencing. Wait, so how is this supposed to help me, if I’m creating the reports? Well, the great thing about working with the ‘power of the crowd’ is, if it doesn’t help you then it is bound to help someone else. And maybe tomorrow you could be that person to benefit from someone else’s willingness to create reports using the Wizzherd app.
So now that you understand why commuter reports are necessary, lets fill you in on the details about how to create reports. Commuters can create reports in one of two ways. The first is on the ‘Train Info’ screen which shows information related to the train you are interested in. For example, the number of stops and if it has a known real-time location. By tapping on the report counter button, ‘X Reports’, it will bring up a menu with three types of reports. The second way, is on the ‘Tracking Journey’ screen, by tapping the report button at the bottom right-hand side of the screen, it will display a menu of six types of reports. Each report records the location, time, and name of the commuter so that we can give reliable information to fellow commuters.
Once a report has been recorded it will appear on the relevant screens. If you add a report while you are tracking your journey, it will display on the timeline. Next let’s explain each report so that you know when to use them.
1. Crowded
During peak times, trains tend to become crowded fairly quickly. You can use this report to indicate that the train is crowded. Great part is that if a train was reported as crowded by other commuters then you know that you might want to wait for the next train because it might be less crowded.
2. Unsafe
Travelling on an empty carriage can be dangerous especially during off-peak times of the day. When you feel unsettled by your commuting experience then it would be a great idea to report it as unsafe. In time, we hope to identity areas where commuters should be more vigilant. For more serious situations like crime and theft we would encourage you to report it to the train operator protection services.
3. Door Jammed
Ever had that moment when you trying to get on the train and then having to run in a hurry to hopefully make it in time to the next carriage before those doors close. Phew, thats a mouthful. As trains experience daily wear and tear, mul-functions are bound to happen. Reporting doors as jammed will help other commuters to know about a possible door-related problems before it is too late.
4. Stopped
Problems relating to the movement of trains tends to be a daily struggle. Commuters can report the train has stopped when it is in between station. Helping to report more trains when they stop helps other commuters find out where the train has stopped. This is really helpful if the train is causing other trains behind it to stop moving too.
5. Slow / Delayed
Sometimes trains tend to start moving a lot slower than they should. Other times trains are noticeably running late. We like to group these two situations together as the train is usually running late. This allows other commuters to know if trains are tending to slow down at a certain sections of the commute.
6. Incident
Unfortunately, due to the unforeseen circumstances accidents do happen. By reporting incidents as they occur on your commute, information will be available to fellow commuters giving them foresight to problems that have occurred on the line they are travelling.
7. Cancelled
We tend to be quick at updating cancellations as they occur but sometimes we are now quick enough. If you do notice a cancellation that has occurred then you can report it. This information will then be available immediately to other commuters. Lets continue to help each other get to where we need to be.
That’s it in a nutshell, in time we will be enhancing the reports by adding more features. We hope to be seeing more reports from fellow commuters. Travel safe and lets continue to start the movement.
