Retreat to Fish Hoek Limited Train Service

Wizzherd

From the 16 September 2020, Metrorail Western Cape has added an additional limited train service for commuters between Retreat and Fish Hoek. This additional service only allows commuters to commute with trains between Retreat, Muizenberg and Fish Hoek. Therefore train stations between these like Kalk Bay, False Bay, Steenberg and more remain closed during the SA Lockdown period. There are only 16 scheduled trains operating between 05:30 and 17:00 Monday to Friday. Eight of the trains are inbound and the rest are outbound. Commuters wishing to travel all the way to town from Fish Hoek or Muizenberg will need to change over at Retreat to a limited train service on either the Southern or Cape Flats lines towards town. For more details regarding the departure times, be sure to view them on the Wizzherd app and select either of the three train stations mentioned above.

Looking Back at the Unpredictable

Looking Back at the Unpredictable

Wizzherd

With trains on the Southern Line being as unpredictable as the weather in Cape Town, we felt it would be great to take a look back at the months of June 2017 and 2018. By retrospecting, we can see what the effects were from the challenges of the rail system. Some of these challenges woud have been cable theft, faulty signals, manual authorizations or even planned upgrades. Just like the weather, on any given day, you can either be affected by one of these or a combination of all of them.

Getting Started with Wizzherd Reports

Getting Started with Wizzherd Reports

Wizzherd

We encourage commuters, who use the Wizzherd app, to help create a more informative environment for public transport. By choosing one of the reports on the app, a commuter can describe the situation they are experiencing. Wait, so how is this supposed to help me, if I’m creating the reports? Well, the great thing about working with the ‘power of the crowd’ is, if it doesn’t help you then it is bound to help someone else. And maybe tomorrow you could be that person to benefit from someone else’s willingness to create reports using the Wizzherd app.

We all know what it feels like to be the one waiting. Lately, the wait for a train seems to be completely unpredictable. In a situation like this, we tend to think that we are alone. The reality is that we already have a community of people who travel by train who need the correct platform.

We believe that by empowering the community, we can help bring back a sense of predictability to the trains. We have created this guide to help Cape Town commuters find a means to improve their train experiences.
