Metrorail Western Cape Timetable for Cape Flats line Covid-19 Limited Service 2020

Cape Flats Line Covid-19 Limited Train Service

We are pleased to announce that we have added the Cape Flats timetable to the Wizzherd app. This follows the announcement of Metrorail Western Cape resuming a limited train service on the Cape Flats Line as of 24 August 2020. The announcement falls in line with the change to level 2 of the SA Covid-19 Lockdown. As explained in our article, Southern Line Covid-19 Limited Train Service, commuters on the Cape Flats line can also expect a revised timetable and operating hours. For easy and convenient access to the most recent train timetable, be sure to download the Wizzherd Beta app for your android mobile phone.

Update: 14 October 2020

Metrorail Western Cape has extended the Cape Flats service to include stops at Koeberg Road, Ndabeni, Pinelands, Hazendal and Wetton.

Changes to Cape Flats Train Timetable and Operation Hours

The limited service timetable for the Cape Flats line has only been provided as a service between Monday to Friday. Trains will operate from as early as 6:15 in the morning and complete operation as late as 19:30. Currently there is no service for Saturdays and Sundays but it is subject to change based on demand. Luckily train commuters can still make use of the Southern Line when travelling on Saturdays.

Changes to stations on the Cape Flats Line

Only nine train stations have been added to date. These include Cape Town, Woodstock, Salt River, Maitland, Athlone, Lansdowne, Ottery, Southfield and Heathfield. For some trains, they are known to also depart from or arrive at Retreat tool. The stations which will be expressed (i.e: train will not be scheduled to stop at) on the Cape Flats line would be Koeberg Road, Ndabeni, Pinelands, Hazendal, Crawford and Wetton. To ensure you get the most out of your commute, always try to plan your trip ahead. You can do this easily with the Wizzherd app because it will show you where each train is scheduled to stop.

Train numbers starting from 0600

Trains scheduled to operate to Cape Flats Line have revised train numbers and will now start from ‘0600’. So if there train is moving towards Cape Town city center it will be even numbers like ‘0600’ and ‘0602’. For trains travelling away from the city center it will be odd numbers like ‘0601’ and ‘0603’. Always try to find out which train you are on beforehand as it helps track your commute with the Wizzherd app. We discuss how this can be done at this article here.

More options for commuters

Commuters traveling from Heathfield to Cape Town will be able to have the benefit of having more than one train line available for commuting. Commuters can either travel on the Southern Line or Cape Flats Line. To help you find out when you can expect the next train, try downloading the Wizzherd app.

As always, please abide to SA Covid-19 safety measures to ensure your health and fellow commuters. For more information regarding the resumption of the Cape Flats line and Covid-19 safety measures, visit the Metrorail Western Cape website.
